Chris Anderson and Jordi Muñoz Discuss the Future of Civilian Drones

In a recent article in U-T San Diego, journalist Steve Chapple spoke with 3D Robotics founders Chris Anderson and Jordi Muñoz about future applications for this emerging technology.

Jordi envisions a growing number of practical applications for personal drones, including “medicine delivery, archaeological inspection, construction, real estate, search and rescue, traffic monitoring, agriculture, border and home security, you name it.”

Chris is more ecumenical about future use cases, telling the reporter: “Our job as technologists is to create the platform and let the customer invent the use.”

With our consumer product — the Iris — scheduled to launch before Thanksgiving, 3DR is expanding its operations. With almost 100 employees in Berkeley, San Diego and Tijuana, we are in the process of moving our San Diego factory to Otay Mesa, to accommodate rapid growth.
